Technical Specifications for Mauritius Certification:

Compliance Requirements: Compliance documents issued by third-party certification bodies, manufacturer's in-house laboratories, and/or testing should prove that the goods comply with applicable standards.

Applicable Standards: Mauritian technical regulations, defaulting to international standards (ISO, IEC, Codex Alimentarius, UN ECE), or manufacturer specifications where no applicable standards exist.

National Deviations: Law No. 2020-007 on consumer protection specifies requirements for food labeling and display.

For food, the following markings should be mentioned:

Production date

Presence of allergens

Meat products: animal species

Food containing genetically modified organisms must obtain special authorization from the Ministry of Trade, Health, and Environment to be marketed, and the presence of genetically modified organisms must be indicated on the label.

The remaining shelf life of food should be at least 50% of the total shelf life at the time of import.

Product testing report: Products with existing testing reports do not need to be retested, except for individual products requiring on-site sampling testing.

Completed CoC application form: Blank application forms are provided by the processing institution.

Upon approval of the above documents, inspection will be arranged. Upon passing inspection, the CoC certificate will be issued.

Import tariffs are levied as specific tariffs and ad valorem tariffs. The ad valorem tariff rates currently range from zero to 30 percent, while the number of tariff bands currently stands at five (zero, five, 10, 15, and 30 percent)
